About the Project
Thunderbird Park is the athletic precinct located within the University of British Columbia, Point Grey Campus. The sports fields and facilities within the precinct are home to many of UBC Athletics’ Varsity Sports programs, student recreation programs and community athletics groups. Starting with our work on the renovation of Ken Woods Field (formerly known as Wolfson West Field) in 2015, MBTW is proud to have led a major renewal of the athletic precinct fields including:
• Ken Woods Field (2015) – conversion of a natural turf field to a synthetic turf field; certified by both FIFA and World Rugby
• Arthur Lord + Frank Buck Fields (2015) – renovation of two natural turf rugby fields to high performance sand based fields.
• National Soccer Development Centre – Phase 1 (2016) – Vancouver Whitecaps Academy and elite athlete training centre including the conversion of one artificial turf field and one natural turf field into two high performance natural turf fields.
• National Soccer Development Centre – Phase 2 (2017) – conversion of an existing parking lot into an artificial turf field.
• Mini-Fields (2017) – development of two synthetic turf futsal fields and a field hockey warm-up area.
• Baseball Stadium (2018) – renovation of the existing synthetic turf baseball field and stadium surrounds.
