W Architect Inc. (WAI) is a highly specialized architectural design practice focused on providing architectural design guidance services to major development clients primarily in Ontario. WAI is part of the MBTW Group of companies and often works in close collaboration with our Urban Planning, Urban Design, and Landscape Architecture practices. As part of our architectural design services WAI: • Organizes visioning studies and workshops for new developments; • Writes and produces architectural design guidelines; • Participates in urban design studies and the development of urban design guidelines; • Practices privately administered design guidance / control; • Provides detailed conceptual and design development studies for a wide range of primarily residential and mixed-use building types; • Produces architectural drawings for applications for site plan approvals; and • Produces construction documents and contact administration services for select projects and clients.through a variety of social activities including in office fitness boot camp, ski days, volleyball events, and more.


Position Description

The Design Guidance Professional’s primary roles are to assist in the management of the daily administration of the Architectural Design Guidance process and to support the work of the Director of Design Guidance.

Key Responsibilities

The Design Guidance Professional will be expected to successfully undertake the following roles and responsibilities and assist in:

  • Working under the direction of the Director of Design Guidance to ensure that the design review processes is completed in a timely, thorough and thoughtful manner;

  • Ensuring that the five-business day (maximum) response time to submissions is maintained;

  • The production of Architectural Design Guidelines;

  • In organizing, recording, filing, and tracking drawings submitted for review;

  • The preparation of comments on drawing submissions and ensure comments sent to builders / developers are clear, helpful and reflect the relevant architectural design guidelines; and

  • Conducting or participating in site visits; review of housing development and write reports.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Architecture or architectural technology;

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an Architectural practice;

  • A knowledge of residential building / development industry in the Greater Golden Horse Shoe;

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills;

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment with tight deadlines;

  • Experience in the management of projects from proposal development to completion;

  • Demonstrate graphic and communication skills.

 

Skills and Knowledge

  • High level of proficiency required in Microsoft Office / Adobe InDesign / AutoCAD (latest version); and

  • Additional proficiencies may include Revit / Sketch-up
