About the Project
In response to ongoing criticism from players and the fans, MLSE committed substantial efforts to the replacement of the existing artificial turf playing surface at BMO Field with a new, state of the art, natural turf facility. With the goal of unveiling the renovated field for Toronto FC’s opening game of the 2010 Major League Soccer (MLS) season; MBTW was quickly engaged by MLSE in the role of Prime Consultant – charged with overseeing the design and implementation of the Client’s vision from conceptual design through commissioning. Complete with a SubAir Sport drainage system and a hydronic field heating system the BMO Field renovation succeeded on many levels: it remains most technologically advanced sports field constructed in Canada; it continues to be ongoing source of pride for MLSE and Toronto FC; it is internationally recognized as a natural turf facility capable of hosting a variety of sporting events.
