About the Project

The Oak Ridges Community Centre is a landmark facility within viewshed of Lake Wilcox in Richmond Hill Ontario. The project, both architecture and landscape, is a leading-edge example of environmental sustainability and is an excellent study of sensitive building placement with high-level coordination between landscape and architecture. The Centre’s landscapes, including ecologically functional and sustainable native materials, enhance the visitor experience by blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces while providing landscape areas that are complementary to the interior uses. The project has achieved LEED Silver Certification.

The MBTW Group was retained by the lead Architects (Perkins+Will) to provide full scope landscape architectural services. The project’s landscapes include an arrival terrace, ‘porch’, trail connections, landscape-based storm water management, bioswales, storm pond, native plantings and meadows.
