About the Project
The MBTW Group was retained by the City of Oshawa to lead the redevelopment of the Oshawa Civic Recreational Complex. Built in the 1960’s, the Civic served as the major sports center in Oshawa for years and was comprised of the Civic Auditorium Arena (home of the Oshawa General Hockey Club until 2008), the Civic Soccer Fields, The Civic Football Stadium and Track, tennis courts, indoor running track and pool, fitness center and an expansive parking lot.
MBTW was the lead consultant spearheading the redevelopment of the Civic landscapes which includes new lit parking lots, accessible walking and entrance areas, IAAF certified track and field facilities, FIFA certified soccer/field hockey, lacrosse playing pitches, artificial and natural turf playing surfaces, architectural upgrades to the stadium, major children’s playground facility, upgraded practice facilities, storage buildings, and a new indoor artificial playing field.
MBTW’s role included a refinement to the conceptual master plan, public and stakeholder consultation, detailed design, approvals, coordinating a team of sub-consultants and the preparation of specifications, tender documents and construction administration. Presently, this project is being tendered by the City of Oshawa. This $6 million, government funded initiative was completed in 2012.
