Pan AM 2015 Toronto Tracks
About the Project
In 2014, The MBTW Group was retained by Bouygues Building Canada to provide consulting services for the renovation and updating of several existing track and field venues across the City of Toronto. Part of the overall legacy plan for the Pan/Parapan American Games (Toronto 2015), these sites were designated as competition practice facilities with the post-games goal that they would become hubs for the ongoing development of local amateur and professional athletes.
Toronto Track and Field Centre (Indoor), York University, Toronto, ON
The renovation of the indoor events area including (1) 5-lane 200m banked oval running track, (1) 8-lane straight track, (1) 3-lane warm up track, long jump/triple jump runway, and pole vault runway. All events space were complete with rubberized surfacing, event line markings, inserts, and equipment.
Toronto Track and Field Centre (Outdoor), York University, Toronto, ON
The outdoor event areas included (1) 8-lane 400m standard oval running track, (2) 8-lane 110m straight tracks, (2) long jump/triple jump runways, (2) pole vault runways, high jump area, and javelin throw runway. All events space were complete with rubberized surfacing, event line markings, inserts, and equipment. The facility was certified IAAF Class 2.
Birchmount Park Stadium Track & Field, Scarborough, ON
Facilities included (1) 8-lane 400m standard oval track, 8-lane 100m and 110m straight tracks, long jump/triple jump runways, pole vault runway, and high jump areas. All events space were complete with rubberized surfacing, event line markings, inserts, and equipment. The facility was built in conformance with Athletics Ontario (AO) and IAAF Class 2 standards – with minor deviations which were approved due to existing site conditions.
Centennial Park Stadium Track & Field, Etobicoke, ON
Like Birchmount Stadium, facilities included (1) 8-lane 400m standard oval track, 8-lane 100m and 110m straight tracks, long jump/triple jump runways, pole vault runway, and high jump areas. All events space were complete with rubberized surfacing, event line markings, inserts, and equipment. The facility was built in conformance with Athletics Ontario (AO) and IAAF Class 2 standards – with minor deviations which were approved due to existing site conditions.
In the role of Design Leader, MBTW undertook the following scope of work at each of the facilities:
Review and analysis of exiting conditions.
Identification of site-specific compliance issues specific to IAAF rules and regulations.
Confirmation of scope of work based on project performance specifications - as prepared by Pan/Parapan American Games (Toronto 2015).
Detailed Design Documents – drawings and specifications.
Tender Documents including tender period assistance and award of contract processes.
Contract Administration Services during the construction period.
Facility Certification / Record of Measure coordination.
