About the Project
The MBTW Group with a team on consultants was retained by the Town of Richmond Hill to design the municipality’s first fully accessible park. The inclusive design accommodates individuals who are physically challenged, have sensory or cognitive impairments, are older adults and those who are able-bodied.
Crosby Park has been created with the background and dedication of a highly skilled team that includes the residents and staff from the Town of Richmond Hill, disability consultants, engineers and landscape architects.
The “site as a journey” is the central theme and inspiration for Crosby Park. The design interprets diverse landscape types including forests, meadows, dells, hollows, ponds, rivers and valleys to create a stimulating outdoor recreation environment. The site offers visitors a heightened awareness of the natural processes and habitats surrounding them while they journey through the landscape.
The inclusive design includes a playground area with a tree-house, and musical instruments, a water play area with interactive geysers and friendly squirting animals and plants, as well as a sensory garden, games tables, intuitive wayfinding and barrier-free pathways.
